Gone are the days when the FOX News talking heads fawned uncritically over everything any Republican ever said. Former vice president and baleful sadist Dick Cheney was called out on FOX News for dodging his responsibility for the current Middle East crisis. Specifically, the Iran nuclear deal signed by president Obama.
Fox News anchor Chris Wallace had som surprisingly harsh words for Cheney’s criticism of Obama’s plan. Larry Wilmore of the Nightly Show was even more on point, referring to Cheney’s statements as a “poison pill” and how Cheney “drops little lie bombs.”
Leave it to political pundits to paint colorful metaphors. What to make of all this – could FOX news be shifting slightly to the left? Don’t be juvinlile – they would rather eat themselves. More likely, FOX is playing it smart. Cheney, now long out of office, is a safe target for criticism. FOX can hardly spend more wind ragging on Obama as his term’s almost over anyway. By coming down on “old school” Neocons of the 2000s era, they may be able to distance themselves from the far right just enough to appeal to middle-aisle voters. Or Chris Wallace was just fed up with Cheney’s bull and decided to pull all the stops.
Either way, I’m all for it. We need more Cheney blasting around these parts. God knows he’s done his fair share. Of blasting that is. Blasting faces. He’s a face blasting monster who should never be trusted with a hunting shotgun – let alone a nuclear arsenal.
