Everyone knows that does who serve in the military are to be admired. However, there are certain individuals who are serving to remind us just how much. Cpl. Kyle Carpenter is a Medal of Honor recipient. This Medal is the highest military honor for the United States. In 2010, Carpenter protected a fellow Marine from a grenade in the midst of a firefight in Afghanistan. For this heroic act, he became the eighth living recipient of the Medal of Honor for service in Afghanistan or Iraq in the year 2014.

When he appeared on the David Letterman Show, David Letterman went through the long list of his injuries. He had many shattered bones, including 30 in only one arm. He also had a fractured skull, ruptured ear drums, and a right lung that had collapsed.

He lost the ability to see out of his right eye as well as lost the majority of his jaw. While he was on duty, he there were actually three different times when he flatlined. He speaks highly of the people who work at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and said they played a major role in helping him recover.
