Hope For Paws, a nonprofit dog rescue based in Los Angeles, went on a mission to rescue a pregnant dog name Iris who had been homeless for some time and was injured. They wanted to find her before she gave birth. When they finally found her, it was too late.
Instead of finding a pregnant, rescuers came across Iris and three little puppies. Iris was scared and protective of her new babies. She refused to be coaxed out from her hiding place deep in the bushes along a busy street, standing guard over her newly birthed brood.
Eventually, the rescuers, Eldad Hagar and Lisa Chiarelli, were able to get Iris onto their leash, and rescued the new family. In a way, her fierce devotion to her puppies was beneficial, as many other dogs would have run away from potential rescuers.
Iris and her babies are now thriving with their new foster family through, another Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization. All four of them are now available for adoption. The hope is that Iris can stay with at least one of her puppies in a new forever home, especially as she fought so hard to save them all.
