Robert DeNiro may be hamming it up on the big screen as “Bad Grandpa,” but it looks like the Internet is more interested in a vintage photo of what ladies are calling “Hot Grandpa!”
Derek Schwendeman got a lot more than he bargained for when he shared a 1950 picture on the website Imgur of his grandfather just days before he deployed to Korea. The comment section lit up with thousands of flattering comments and questions like “Is he single?” and “Does he have any male grandchildren? Asking for a friend.” One commenter got straight to the point, writing, “Holy “beep” your grandfather is hot.” Within five days, the photo went viral with over 2.5 million shares.
There’s no denying that the “Hot Grandpa,” who happens to have a name, Thomas Schwenderman, was a great looking man in his prime. With bright blue eyes, tan skin and a perfect, gleaming smile, it’s no wonder women were swooning over him.
Everyone will be happy to know that Thomas Schwenderman, 86, is happily living in Pennsylvania with Fleecie, his wife of 67 years. The couple has three children, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild on the way. They still enjoy bowling, which is where the couple first met all those years ago. Fleecie laughs as she talks about how Thomas is secretly enjoying all of the attention he’s getting and said, “Women fussed over him all of the time, but (I) got him first.”
All the hoopla has prompted others around the world to post photos of their own grandfathers during their time in the military. Maybe one of them will rival “Hot Grandpa” in the looks department, but right now that’s quite a tall order.
