Rape is one of the most abhorrent and disgusting things that human beings are capable of. But one Republican from West Virginia doesn’t seem to think it’s really all that bad: Brian Kurcaba believes that if there is a child that results from a rape, then it’s beautiful. Beautiful. BEAUTIFUL?? This statement is one of the most horrifyingly ignorant statements a lawmaker has publicly made in years. Possibly decades.
These statements are meant to defend the claim that abortions should be illegal after rape, so that assaulted women will have to live the rest of their lives with a living breathing reminder of the atrocious crime that was committed against them. This asshat Republican thinks that he knows what is best for women who’ve been compromised, because after all he’s an old white lawmaking male and his opinions might as well be called ‘facts’. Right?
WRONG! Anyone who thinks that is automatically untrustworthy – anyone who doesn’t recognize rape as criminally f**ked up is probably criminally f**ked up themselves. This man should be removed from his position and publicly shamed for being such a ferocious idiot.
To me, it seems crazy that in 2015, people could possibly be fighting so hard to move backwards and undo progress America fought to hard to make. Women’s rights, like that of birth control and the right to have an abortion, shouldn’t be an issue up for public debate any longer, and the idea that a lawmaker could possibly be so misguided as to think of rape, under any circumstances, as anything but an abomination, is highly troubling.
