Tempe, Arizona – Pastor Steven Anderson of the Faithful Word Baptist Church seems to be longing for the early 1980s when the spread of AIDS was considered a homosexual disease.
The fact that the people who came down with the auto-immune disorder were largely homosexual males and intravenous drug users allowed society to turn a blind eye towards their plight much as the priest and Levite did in the parable of the Good Samaritan. In other words, those charged by God with administering the blessings of the priesthood ignored the plight of wounded souls because of their affiliation with a culture and people frowned upon by society.
In the case of this modern day Levite, Pastor Anderson preaches that it is God’s plan that all members of the LGBT community be killed. Only by adherence to the scriptures as he supposes them to mean, can Christmas be celebrated free of AIDS. Without regard to the countless numbers of souls who will endure the holiday season afflicted by all manner of addictions, loneliness, depression, chronic health problems onset by age or obtained congenitally, Pastor Anderson believes God is devoted to stomping out the LGBT community. Never mind that HIV is carried by tens of millions of heterosexuals.
In uttering his unwavering message of doom for those who sexual orientation is outside of his definition of natural, he cited Leviticus 20:13 which pronounced death upon those who engage in homosexual intercourse. Pastor Anderson does not understand that “death” in ancient Hebrew culture had to do with separating oneself from God from whom flows all blessings IE “life”. It wasn’t a recipe for capital punishment on moral grounds.
