Every year, the President of the United States is required to give a State of the Union address to discuss matters concerning the country and put forth a plan to get those concerns remedied.
President Obama delivered his speech to Congress and the nation to the usual Republican skepticism and disrespect. There was one moment when the President gave a line in his oration that said, “I have no more campaigns to run”, to which members of the Republican Party responded with applause. Not to be content with accepting any more of their childish, outrageous, and unbefitting behavior, he turned to them and retorted, “I know. I won both of them”.
What!? Oh, no he didn’t. Bam! Slam dunk! In your face! He set them up and knocked them down. They went for the rope-a-dope. They took the bait hook, line, and sinker. It was a beautiful display of intelligence, quick-wittedness, artistry, and yes even a sort of inner strength.
It was a thing of beauty that set twitter on fire. He burned them! The mild-mannered, non-confrontational Barack Hussein Obama actually publicly set them back on their heels to the point it felt like a piece of history was written exalting him to “King” of the epic burn.
It was music to the ears of most (that is taking into account the Republican reaction). The icing on the cake came only seconds later as he flashed the bright smile and winked in their general direction. It was like a wonderfully executed drone strike on the right target, at the right time, for the right reason. At that, the party was over in a very good way. Puns intended.
