Salem is a hot spot for street preachers around Halloween of every year. Their hell-fire-and-brimstone messages leave everyone but their own kind feeling awkward and angry.
However, as adults and mostly responsible citizens, most of us walk past and pretend not to be insulted by our apparent ‘diagnosis’ of eternal burning. Blissfully free from the social restraints of the adult world, one little girl has had enough.
The video was recorded in the name of art. “I’ve been recording their [the street preachers’] interactions with people for a couple of years now for a long running art project,” said Robert Goss-Kennedy, the man who filmed this outspoken little girl, “and while this young guy was preaching, a little girl just ran up and started laying into him.”
Apparently unafraid of the street preacher with a microphone and his assertions that everyone around him was being forced into hell, the little girl shouts at the man. “Shut up!” she cries. “No one listens!”
Not only does she vary her offensive moves (“pieholes should be quiet!” complete with a hand gesture of a closing mouth), she clearly affects the delivery of the street preacher’s news for humanity. The girl’s family is not in the video. She seems to have run up on her own, already irate, and gives the guy a piece of her mind – something many of the adults watching surely wish to do themselves.
