Reality TV has given birth to a plethora of competition programs. These shows, often loaded with a harsh critic for a judge, give people the opportunity to display their unique talent to the world, and possibly earn a living from it. What two French men did, however, raised the level of these competitions to an entirely new spectrum.
Comedy may be relative, but shock value is universal. The french comedy duo known as Les hommes à poêles tried to combine both concepts when they hit the stage of the popular Le Plus Grand Cabaret Du Monde. The two men arrived in their birthday suits and performed one of the craziest dance routines ever aired on television.
To say they were naked is not entirely true. Sure, the two men were unclothed. Yet, they did their best to cover up their private parts using sauce pans. In fact, that was the point of their number. Comedy ensued from their efforts to conceal what was begging for reveal.
The crowd in attendance was blown away by this slapstick burlesque routine. As was the Internet. To date, the video has over five million views.
Regardless of your feelings on modesty, praise for these comedians is in order. They managed to incorporate two very different styles of expression into one dance number that got the world buzzing. As stale as competition shows have become, they can still produce a few gems every now and then.
