The ad showed a company that replaced a classic ATM, Automated Teller Machine, with a Automated Thanking Machine. The written part of the ad explains how a Canadian bank made a difference in it’s customers lives by giving special gifts to customers using the ATM. It also asks you to imagine how life would be if all companies said thank you in this way. After clicking on the YouTube video it shows some of the gifts the people received.
One woman received tickets to go see her daughter, who was recovering from surgery and is battling cancer, in Trinidad. It shows a single mom receiving piggy banks and checks for $1000.00 apiece for each child. She then gets take her daughters to Disneyland. The woman begins crying and says she never gets to take her kids anywhere. A man gets Toronto Blue Jays gear and is honored by throwing out the first pitch at a home game.
Each customer is given something special to them as a way of saying “thank you” for being a good customer and in some cases for being a good person. The bank showed how well it knows it’s customers and how saying thank you can be a powerful way to show gratitude and build loyalty. Each person receiving the gifts that they showed were extremely surprised and shocked that the ATM was giving them such intimate attention.
The video was enormously touching and it is a powerful and convincing form of advertising. For a bank to demonstrate it cares and really does appreciate its customers will definitely win new customers and maintain old customers.
