Security measures at the airport have gotten a little out of hand. Take, for example, the 90 year-old grandma that waits in line for an hour only to be frisked and taken to the side for extra evaluation. Here, now again, is another tragic story of a woman who died due to security issues gone haywire at a Russian airport. This highly avoidable and devastating story is almost too horrific to be true.
A 30 something woman and her husband were attempting to board a plane out of Russia. We all know how important security measures are, especially at airports, but there has got to be some regulations put into place to prevent things like this from happening. The woman was on a pacemaker for a heart condition. Airport security was told of her medical condition before she was sent to the scanner area.
Everyone nearby was well aware of her health condition and still had her proceed for scanning. Consequently, death occurred due to the security scanner that allowed her pacemaker to malfunction. Here is where the problem occurs. We all want to feel safe and at peace when flying.
Yet, going to the extreme is not the answer. People are becoming victims of the things that we are trying to prevent; namely death. Security staff need to be trained better in dealing with so called special issues. These could be health related, age related, and so on. There are exceptions to the rules, and unfortunately in this case no one took that into consideration.
