Connie Trube, a city council member from La Marque City Council has found herself in hot water after she was records making racist statements as she spoke about the issues in her school district: “It’s not going to get any better until you get those blacks off the school board…She really turned black. She got on the school board with the rest of the blacks and they all just ganged up and that’s why the school system has gone to hell.”
Although many residents have been clamoring for her resignation, Connie has insisted that she is only stating her own opinion: “What is on the tape is nothing more than me stating my honest opinion and I don’t back down from that.”
Racism has been a topic of American focus after Donald Sterling’s controversial statements earlier last month and the town is acting appropriately. Bobby Hocking, mayor of La Marque has spoken out again Connie’s statements and a full investigation is pending, which will then be forwarded to the Department of Justice.
Connie will certainly be choosing her words more carefully in the future, especially when she is on the record, but it will likely not matter as she is expected to face harsh disciplinary action.
