International mowing competitions may not be the most well-known sporting events in the world, but many passionate enthusiasts flock from all over the world to participate in these contests every year. One such event, the West Country Scythe Festival that takes place annually in rural England, proved that modern techniques aren’t always the fastest when two men went to battle with a pair of unruly strips of grass. One took a powerful lawnmower to the task while the other slashed away with his scythe. As silly as the premise is, something about the results is inherently awe inspiring.
The scythe wielder secured a narrow victory in terms of speed, although most people would agree that using technology is a much more leisurely process. The shirtless man appeared to have travelled from another time, vigorously hacking away with long slashes and stunning efficiency.
While the man behind the lawnmower was forced into a brief stall, his opponent swiftly and mechanically obliterated all in his path. Even after the competitor with the lawnmower entered a jog late in the minute long contest to try to catch up, the scythe was able to prove its superiority and secure the win.
To be able to claim a victory using outdated technology is definitely a feat to be respected, but it’s doubtful that many people would be able to adopt the scythe without losing a few toes in the process.
