VIDEO: I Wish I Knew This Weird Trick To Get A Ring Off A Finger Before I Had To Cut It Off

Rings can get stuck on your finger for any number of reasons. Swelling due to pregnancy or a ring sized too small are just a couple of examples. Usually, baby oil or soapy water will help it to slide right off. But that won’t always work. There’s another little known trick to removing a ring. All it requires is a shoestring. A piece of string will work in a pinch, but a shoestring works best.

It’s flat manufacture and the aglet at the end of it make it the perfect string for this operation. Starting at the joint nearest the fingertip, wrap the string around the finger tightly going up towards the second joint of the finger. Don’t worry about getting it too tight. It will only be there for a few seconds. Keep wrapping until all the finger from the first joint to the second are covered.

You must wrap the second joint also. When the second joint is wrapped, work the free end of the string under the ring. Begin pulling on the free end of the string in order to begin sliding the ring down the finger as the string is pulled. With your free hand, work the ring down the finger and keep pulling gently on the free end of the string with your other hand.

As you keep up this process, the ring will reach a point and slide off easily. This should save the poor soul with a ring stuck on their finger a trip to the emergency room and keep them from losing a ring. They may, however, want to get that ring re-sized!
