VIDEO: I Can’t Believe I’ve Been Cleaning My Cast Iron Pan Wrong All These Years

If you are like most people, you may have had trouble with cleaning your old cast iron pot at least a few times in your life. After all, they can get ruined if you put them inside of the dish washer.

Not to mention that cleaning them with the steel wool or even a standard plastic scrubber than scratch the surface. Not only does this make your kitchenware look really bad, but it can make the food you cook on your pot less flavorful and make it easier to rust. Rinsing it can get the visible layers of unwanted food and grease off, but it is not sanitary in the slightest! Surely, there must be a better way?

Fortunately, there is one method that can leave your cast iron pot or skillet spotless, without compromising its integrity. The best thing about it is that it is very simple, and it only requires one ingredient that almost every body has in their kitchen at all times: salt!

This may seem a little peculiar, but it does really work, and it is very efficient. All you have to do is follow two simple steps after cooking. First, rinse away the larger bits of food that may have clung to your pan. After that, just pour some salt onto the surface and scrub away! When you have finished getting all of the grime off, just rinse it again, and it will look brand new.
