VIDEO: Here Are Three Easy Steps To Fixing Any Broken Zipper At Home For Free

It is devastating when you find out that your favorite pair of jeans’, or coat’s zipper is broken. You may feel like your only option is to pay an arm and a leg for a professional seamstress to fix it or to just throw the clothes away. Thankfully, there is another option, and it isn’t difficult to do right at home. The only supplies you’ll need are your hands and some pliers. Here’s how to fix a zipper that no longer closes in just three easy steps:

1.Figure out the exact point the problem is occurring. Typically, zipper damage happens when the slider wears out and doesn’t engage with the teeth of the zipper. You need to first figure out where the slider is losing its grip. Once you have found the problem spot, you can start to fix it.

2.Clamp the mouth of the slider with your pliers. Take your pliers and gently clamp down on the mouth of the zipper. The mouth of the zipper is at the bottom part, and it is used to bring the teeth of the zipper together. Clamp down on both sides of the mouth. Make sure you don’t clamp the mouth closed too tight or your zipper will stick. You only want to bring the mouth together enough to make the teeth engage.

3. Test out your zipper. Once you have clamped the mouth of the zipper a little bit, test the zipper to see if it works better. If not, try clamping the mouth closed a little bit more, but again, remember that you don’t want to close the mouth too much or your zipper will stick. If your zipper is still gaping in parts, run the mouth over these parts and it should fix the problem!

By following these easy steps you can quickly fix your broken zipper problem. And, sorry, if your zipper is still not working, you may have to consult with a professional seamstress. But usually minor zipper damage can be repaired with this quick fix.
