By following these instructions making a broom from empty two liter soda bottles can be a fairly simple project. 1. Use a box knife to remove the top from one soda bottle approximately one inch below the curve to the main body. Discard the larger bottom portion.
The top is now part B-1. 2. Use a box knife to remove the bottoms of two or more soda bottles one to two inches from the bottom. Discard the smaller bottoms. The remainders are part B-3. 3. On the B-3 parts use scissors to cut ½ inch strips from the bottom to the beginning of the curve at the top all the way around. Set one B-3 aside. This is now B-2. 4. On the remaining B-3 parts use a box knife to remove the neck one to two inches down.
Do not cut he strips away. 5. Place the B-2 neck through the expanded holes in the B-3s. Be sure that the strips hang strait. 6. Insert a dowel, old broom handle or stick four inches into the neck of B-1. This is the handle so be sure it is long enough. 7. Fit the B-2/B-3 combo under the B-1 so they are snug up to it. 8. Predrill a pilot hole through the side of the B-1 and neck of the B-2 and fasten to the handle with a small screw.
9.Using a board flatten the B-2/B-3 combo. 10. On both sides of the handle drill a small hole through all of the plastic parts. 11. Thread a piece of wire through the holes and around the handle. Twist to secure and cut away the extra wire. An old coat hanger works well for this. 12. Sweep the floor.
