Tommy, a high school senior, was riding in a car with his mom, Teresa, when he suddenly asked his mom to stop the car. Teresa was startled when she excitedly asked her son what was the matter.
There was not anything wrong. Tommy saw an elderly man, who was using a walker and struggling to shovel his driveway and simply wanted to help the man. Teresa was surprised by her son’s generous act of kindness.
After she stopped the car, Tommy jumped out and started shoveling. According to the teen, the man was genuinely surprised and was thankful for the help because the snow was deep and very heavy.
Tommy told reporters that he was happy to lend the man a hand and was a little taken aback by the fact that not one other person had bothered to help the older gentlemen shovel.
Teresa said she was extremely proud of her son when she watched him shovel and that she began to cry because she was so overwhelmed by her son’s kind gesture.
The older man was grateful for what Tommy did and told the teen that there should be more people like him the world and said may God bless you.
Tommy told reporters that he did not want acclaim for his actions. He said he just wanted to help a man that obviously needed some assistance. Tommy also said that one day when he is old and in need of help that someone will stop to lend him a hand.
