The Congers family took to the waters off the coast of Port Charlotte for some fishing over the summer. The family that consists of avid fishermen and outdoors-men caught a stingray early in their fishing trip.
Calvin Congers, 18, hooked the fish and quickly pulled it on board, intending to use the stingray as shark bait for later on in the trip, but his father quickly notice not all was normal with the fish. What Calvin caught was a stingray in the midst of birthing a pup.
Spring into action, the elder Congers pushed gently on the fish and helped deliver the first pup. He pushed gently again on the fish and helped the second pup come into the world.
The family, mystified at what they just witnessed quickly took the fish and released them back into the waters, whether the mother ray could care for her young.
A video of the unexpected event was uploaded to YouTube, where it has gone viral. Several news channels have picked up the video and have been sharing them on their own channel. Since the video was uploaded over the summer it has amassed millions of views on YouTube, and now the family is getting further attention for their act of kindness.
There is no further information on the rays, but it can be assumed they have grown up to live happily and healthily in the clear waters off the coast of Florida.
