Although almost everyone would agree that cats naturally stand on four legs, there are a few cats that go against the norm. A munchkin breed exotic shorthair cat named “George” that lives in Austin, Texas with his owner Andrew Park surprised Andrew and others members of his family when he started standing upright on his short back legs at different times.
Andrew posted pictures of the upright 8-month-old George on a variety of social networks. He admitted that he can’t fathom why George started doing it, but he believes that the cat acts this way for reasons that involve his getting a better view of his surroundings. Given George’s height on four legs, this is likely the case. Andrew has noticed that George does it when he hears something, seems suspicious of something near him or needs to “scope out” an area.
Pictures of George the Cat, as he is also called, show him standing upright on a floor, couch and bed even when no one is directly interacting with him other than to take the picture. In the past, he has supposedly also done this while on a table looking out a window.
No one has yet figured out exactly why George sits upright or how he manages to stay upright with such ease. Videos of George as a kitten posted by Andrew on YouTube show him running around and resting on four legs as expected.
His desire to sit upright as he has aged is certainly a mystery!
