Video: David’s Wife Died in 2011. What She Gave Him Just Now Had Us In Tears. WOW!

For a radio station in Des Moines, Iowa, they’ve never received a warning (and heartbreaking) Christmas Wish quite like this one:

Brenda Schmitz, was a mother of four who wrote two letters —one for her husband and another to her new fiancée— and asked a close friend to send it to KSTZ with the promise that they would read both letters when her husband fell in love again. The studio contacted widower David Schmitz and his fiancée, Jaymee Abraham —also a mother of two— to the studio to read these letters through radio show host Colleen Kelly.

In the Des Moines radio station that has put itself in charge of fulfilling Christmas wishes for over twenty years, Star 102.5’s website declares, “[W]e’ve never received a wish quite like this one”, posting the letter, acknowledgements, and video of the segment. In it, Brenda wrote about her acknowledgement of the radio station’s Christmas tradition, expressed regrets as she would miss seeing her four children grow up into “fine men”. In regards to David, she also expressed: “What a great husband he is”, and thought about how overwhelming this process must have been for him to make tough decisions that impacted the whole family.

Brenda had three special wishes: the first, for David’s fiancée, Jaymee Abraham, to be treated to a spa day; the second, for the whole family to go to “a magical trip”, where they eventually went to Disneyland; and finally, a “night out” for recognition of the oncology doctors who took care of Brenda in her last days. Over five local businesses and many other generous donations have helped for this Christmas Wish to be put together and fulfilled.
