Most commly known as the science guy, Bill Nye jumped from the frying pan to the fire as he brought forward a confrontational view point on the TV show, Midpoint. Creationism is a hot button topic, and Nye’s take on it will have conservative Christians up in arms.
The science guy argues that the fear of death has become prevalent in many American households, therefore evolution has been transformed into a dirty word. The unwillingness of parents to allow the younger generation to learn about and explore evolution is creating a foundational gap in the overall education of life sciences and biology in general.
Nye believes this mind set is unique to the United States and dates back to the fundamental Christian roots of the nation. He states that the conservative Christian up bringing that insists on glorifying a book that is thousands of year old is actually creating children who are less intelligent then they could, or should be. The science guy feels that this ideology will severely limit future innovations within the United States, as well as creating a general lack of education within future adults.
Nye states his reason for coming forward on this controversial issue is “to raise awareness that we are raising a generation of kids who are discouraged from thinking.” Nye has opened a can of worms with his blatant and straight forwards statements, but most likely this hot button issue will continue forward as a leading argument within the United States.
