Unarmed Black Man And Daughter Shot By Police While Dad Was Saving Girl From Asthma Attack

Jacksonville, Florida – Brian Dennison, age 29, faced a situation no father would ever want to be in when he was fired up while holding his daughter. Dennison had been at a basketball game with his 6-year-old girl when her asthma began to flare up. They left the game and headed home. On the way back, her asthma became severe prompting Dennison to speed up in an effort to get home and retrieve her medicine. It was then a state trooper noticed his expired tags and flashed his lights to pull him over. Dennison ignored them and headed back to their apartment.

Upon arriving, the officer ordered him out of the car, and he stepped out holding his daughter. It was then that Officer J.C. Garcia fired at Dennison. In an instant, Dennison explained that he believed either he or his daughter had taken a round. Thankfully, neither was struck.

He explained to Officer Garcia the medical emergency and was allowed to retrieve her medicine. Afterwards, Garcia arrested him for driving on a suspended or revoked license. Dennison made his appearance in court last week and posted bail.

As for the shooting incident, it is under investigation. Garcia claims Dennison was not holding his daughter. He says the suspect made a motion that he believed indicated he was armed. The incident is drawing attention at a time that many African-Americans are upset over the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. The police officer in that shooting was not charged after a grand jury examined the evidence in great detail, and numerous witnesses were found committing perjury to spin a false narrative about excessive force by the police officer.
