President-elect Donald Trump is seeking high-level security clearances for his children, Eric, Donald and Ivanka. Trump said he wants his administration to be shared by all of his immediate family, and there is no reason why his children should not be privy to the same information that he receives on a daily basis.
According to CBS News, experts are worried that such clearances will place America in jeopardy by making its most important secrets available to hostile governments. The people who make deals with those governments could easily get their hands on extremely sensitive data.
National security is already a challenging matter with major hacking attempts occurring often against government servers. There is also no legitimate reason why Trump’s children would need presidential-level access to anything as that is a privilege generally reserved for the commander-in-chief and his advisors.
As many people continue to protest the outcome of the election, the possibility of the entire Trump family having high security clearances is adding fuel to the fire. Many have pointed out that Trump’s children running his businesses is already a clear conflict of interest, and giving them escalated security privileges would amount to a national emergency situation. Trump has not made an official comment on these concerns.
