This Error By The Prosecutor Altered The Law In Darren Wilson’s Favor

Darren Wilson was an officer in Ferguson, Missouri who resigned over the weekend. He wasn’t indicted for killing 18 year old Michael Brown Jr on August 9, 2014 , and was on paid leave ever since the shooting.

The Shooting
On August 9th, Michael Brown Jr., 18 and his friend Dorian Johnson,22, were involved in shoplifting at Ferguson’s Market and Liquor. Brown took a box of cigarillos from the store, and the two friends walked to Johnson’s house. Then, a police car drove by the two friends and the officer ordered them out of the street.

Dorian told the officer he and his friend were only a minute away from their destination, and they’d get out of the street when they arrived. Officer Wilson seemed be driving away until he put the car in reverse and pulled up, coming close to hitting the two men with the car. In the end, Michael Brown was shot six times including the bullet that hit him in the head, killing him.

The Trial
The grand jury was instructed to uphold a statute that stated a police officer could use any means possible in making an arrest. Also, Brown’s death was blamed on side effects from using Marijuana that caused him to allegedly attack the officer. Wilson’s testimony stated that Brown hit the officer 10 times when the officer was still in the car. The witnesses to Brown’s death only learned about it second hand, claiming he attacked the officer.
