Initially mistaken for a garbage bag at the bottom of a ditch, a horribly neglected dog was given a second chance by an immensely caring family, and helped along by a moment of serendipity.
The dog was found at the bottom of a ditch and was at first mistaken for a black garbage bag until a car’s headlights were shined upon it, at which point she bolted up a driveway, improbably through the peril of a fast-traffic road.
Terrified and filthy, she was coaxed out and a leash placed on her.
She didn’t bite and walked obediently on a leash, clearly she was once someone’s pet. When she was brought home and looked over, the dog had obviously been on her own for weeks, her hair matted and stuck together in dense, filthy clumps.
She appeared to be missing a leg and film covered her eyes. Through a lot of love and care, her rescuers were able to nurse her back to health, and now the dog, Sophie, is happy and well cared for. Her rescuers taking her on hourly potty training walks, and even spending a little savings on dresses for her. And while she’ll have to share her space a little with their current dog, she has a home and a family now.
