Prom season is an exciting time in a young girl’s life. After getting asked by that special someone, the hunt is on for the perfect dress, shoes to match, and the right makeup and hairstyle. Once the big day is here, and she feels like a fairy princess, it’s off to fun and dancing the night away. But unfortunately for Amy Steverson, her night was cut short because of a dress deemed inappropriate by school officials.
Tiffini Taylor, the mother of Amy friend, posted on Facebook what had transpired. Amy was shunned away at the door of her prom after being told her dress was too revealing, which Tiffini wholeheartedly disagreed with.
The school officials offered her the vice principal’s jacket to cover up, which the young lady declined. Tiffany’s post has since went viral, sparking a debate about school dress codes, weight, and if this case was justified.
Whether or not you agree that Amy’s dress was inappropriate, it is a shame that the young woman had to miss out on such a special day over a dress, and possibly her weight. Her parents did claim she had a “wardrobe malfunction” after the posted picture was taken, making the dress more revealing.
