A stunning new hair trend called the macaron is appearing around the country. It is similar to the rainbow hair style but uses more muted colors. Some refer to it as “candy unicorn hair” because the colors are the same ones often used in sweets and toys. The color palette of the macaron is silver, yellow, blue, peach, mint green, pale pink and violet.
It was created by a New York City hairstylist, Shelley Gregory, who was inspired by the macarons and pastries sold by a popular shop called Laduree. Gregory told Cosmopolitan magazine that the shop features crown moldings and colors like Disneyland, and that is the feeling she wanted to give to the hairstyle, which features thick braiding along with the pastel colors.
Some people add glitter or other accessories to the hair to make it look even more magical. The whimsical style is definitely turning heads, although its appeal may be limited to the younger crowd. One drawback is the pale shades tend to fade quickly, which means the style is high maintenance.
