Tennessee Decided To Drug Test Welfare Recipients. The Results? The GOP Will Be Dumbfounded

There has recently been an uproar calling for states across the U.S. to drug test recipients of public aid. One of the states that recently implemented a program to do just that received results that were, frankly, not what they expected. 16,000 individuals were urine tested for drugs in the state of Tennessee and only 12 people failed their test.

From a medical standpoint the results are a breath of relief showing that the majority of the populous do not use or abuse drugs. From a political standpoint there is sure to be some negative feedback due to the fact that the program costs a whopping $30k.

A research study revealed that those who receive food stamps or monetary assistance really are in need and spend what little money they have wisely. Naysayers point out the fact that the government has placed a stereotype on the lower class citizens by assuming that they are drug users and lowlifes who leach off of the government.

More often than not those who apply for aid really are struggling and are just looking to get back on their feet and provide for their families. There are several other states preparing to implement drug testing for various forms of aid including: Texas, Colorado, Montana, and Maine.
