Clive Bundy’s legal problems just got worse. After a recent victory scored over the federal government over the grazing rights of his cattle on federal property, several heads of his cattle free roamed onto a section of I-15 causing a major car accident.
Back on April 14, a school teacher by the name of Danielle Beck was in a car being driven by her boyfriend, Mathew Zanatta, when they came up on both lanes of the interstate being blocked by Bundy’s cattle.
They were traveling at 75 MPH. A vehicle at that speed needs a minimum of 3-4 seconds in order to come to a complete stop. For anyone who has not done the math, it takes the length of a football field to halt a car at that speed. They did not have that much distance and crashed head on into a cow subsequently veering off the road at 1:15AM.
Authorities say Beck was lucky to survive her wounds. Her surgeon had never witness someone break so many ribs and survive. She is suing Bundy for reckless negligence with his cows and is asking for $20,000 to cover her medical costs and lost wages. For his part, Bundy has displayed utter disregard.
He did not show up to collect his cattle. He does not accept responsibility and claims it’s the state of Nevada’s fault for not securing the highway with a cattle fence. He actually claims Beck owes him for the loss of livestock. Bundy was cited for being responsible, but it is unclear if Beck will ever be able to collect damages from him.
