Zeus, the world’s tallest dog, died on September 3, 2014 at age five. The Great Dane died from natural causes and was just two months shy of his sixth birthday. He lived in Otsego, Michigan with owner Kevin Doorlag and his family. Zeus held the Guinness World Record in 2013 for the world’s tallest dog.

The dog was 44 inches tall and 7-foot-4 when he stood on his hind legs. He weighed 155 pounds at the time of his passing. According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, the dog ate about 30 pounds of food every two weeks and enjoyed drinking water straight from the faucet. The family purchased their pet when he was just 8 weeks old.

Owner Kevin said his pet was a lapdog at heart and loved to sit on someone’s lap while the family grilled out on their home’s porch. Zeus was a local celebrity and visited several schools and hospitals in the Kalamazoo area. In fact, he was a certified therapy dog.

Kevin’s wife Denise said that when people saw her pet they often asked whether he was a dog or a horse. Zeus was also quite active on social media and had many followers on Facebook. Since his passing, the page has been taken down.
