Stray Bullet Kills Dad Who Was Welcoming Home His Newborn Baby

Tragedy strikes a Florida family as they welcome home a new baby. Justin Ayers and his wife were welcoming home a new baby with family when a stray bullet strikes and kills him. Justin’s neighbor Charles Edward Shisler picked up his .9 mm pistol by the trigger, causing it to fire.

When the authorities arrived Shisler was found on his porch belligerent and uncooperative. Shisler states the gun usually does not fire. He goes on to state that normally you have to squeeze the trigger hard for the weapon to discharge.

A blood test that was taken more than four hours later confirmed he was legally drunk. The legal blood alcohol limit in Florida is .08. Shisler tested at .079. He later told authorities that he attempted to pick up the gun by the trigger and later tried to hide the weapon under a mattress. Shisler was arrested and charged with manslaughter and for being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon. He had a previous felony weapon charge from 2006.

Justin Ayers was a teacher at D&H Music in Panama City. The medical examiner stated an autopsy will be conducted on Ayers body to determine the cause of death. According to authorities both homes are being treated as crime scenes.
