If you were to walk into a Reddit user’s backyard, you’d see a door that seemingly goes into the ground. The door seemingly has no rhyme or reason, and most people’s curiosity would be peaked. The door actually opens and becomes a sand pit.
The reddit user, who hasn’t been named, saw a similar product online, the set out to build one himself, hopefully for substantially less than the price of a prefabricated item. The results were astonishing. The final product included a sandpit that closes for protection from the elements. When opened, the doors serve as benches for comfort and relaxation.
The entire process was documented through photographs, and each piece was carefully measured and put together. The sandbox was the moved into the backyard and filled for the enjoyment of the users young nephew.
While building and constructing play pieces is nothing new, this particular project has gone viral, with thousands of users checking out the pictures and vowing to create similar pieces for their own young relatives.
By all accounts, the sandbox has been a smash hit, both with the nephew of the builder, and the internet at large. So, next time you see a strangely placed door, you might just be looking at a custom sandbox that a child can enjoy for years to come.
