A sonar test at the murky Foss Lake, brought an end to more than forty years of mystery that has haunted the residents of sleepy town of Sayre, Oklahoma. The test revealed two vehicles sitting at the bottom of the lake, one a 1969 Camaro, the other a 1952 Chevrolet. Both cars matched the description of vehicles driven by Sayre residents who had been missing for over 40 years…
In 1970, Jimmy Allen Willams, then 16, Leah Gail Johnson, then 18 and Thomas Michael Rios, also 18, piled into Williams’ new Camaro. They were headed for the local football game that evening, but they never arrived and were never heard from ever again. A year prior John Porter, Vleburn Hammack and Nora Marie Duncan, middle-aged adults, similarly vanished after getting assistance with their 1952 Chevrolet.
Then in 2013, the cars were located at long last, at the bottom of Foss Lake. They were removed using specialized equipment, and inside were the remains of the six missing people. Extensive DNA testing were needed to prove the identities of the remains, but DNA results have revealed that the remains did in fact belong to Willams, Johnson, Rios, Porter, Hammack and Duncan. Experts agree that the remains likely found their final resting place by accident, and drowning was likely the cause of death for all victims.
Driver error or mechanical error are believed to be to blame for the accidents that lead to the deaths of the 6 individuals. The Lake lies within Foss State Park and serves as a reservoir… Which meant people have been drinking and using the water these bodies were decomposing in and likely eating fish that had been eating human.
