Body shaming is very common in today’s society. Nobody is immune from it. People who are average-sized are being told that they are too fat. People who are skinny are being told that they are starving themselves and need to eat more. However, the most important thing you have to remember is to love yourself.
Sherene Zarrabi, who is a student in Oklahoma, was recently body-shamed. In September 2015, she started working at Dainty Hooligan, which is a retail store. One month after she started her new job, she posted pictures of herself wearing the clothing from the store. She did not think that the pictures would create any problems until she received a letter from the CEO of the company.
The CEO told Sherene that she should not be wearing the clothes because she is not built like a model. The CEO also told Sherene that she should put pictures of models wearing the clothing. The CEO concluded the letter by telling Sherene that she should not take the post personal.
Sherene’s response to her CEO was brilliant. She talked about how she was attacked by the CEO. She also talked about how comments like the CEO’s were the reason so many young girls have body image issues. Additionally, she stated that she is happy with the way she looks and encouraged her family members and friends not to shop at Dainty Hooligan.
Sherene’s post received a lot of shares and positive comments. She also quit her job at Dainty Hooligan.
