A user of the photo sharing site imgur and his wife, who rescues animals as a volunteer, recently shared their experiences adopting and raising an abandoned silver fox. Kona, the fox in question, was one of five baby foxes brought to the shelter that helps rescue wild animals that would be put down otherwise. The foxes were all less than a week old at the time of their rescuing.
Baby foxes require a lot of attention from their mother, and the couple stepped in with tremendous dedication as they did things like pet the tiny fox so that she could go to the bathroom, carry her around with a heating pad so that she could stay warm, and bottle feed her every two hours day and night for a month. Due to how small Kona was, the couple would often just explain that she was a puppy.
As she grew, Kona became more comfortable living with humans, doing such domestic things as taking her first bath and developing attachments to toys. After six weeks, they began to see the silver fur that her breed is known for.
The couple fostered the baby fox for a little while before deciding to adopt Kona permanently due to the fact that the wife was one of the few people in the state to be able to legally do so. Due to her introduction to humans at a young age, Kona has adapted perfectly, and loves to cuddle.
