A young California couple named Steve and Sarah purchased a home and moved in with their baby son. Two years later, Sarah discovered a mysterious, tiny door behind her son’s dresser. After moving the furniture away, she and Steve opened the door to find an odd little room that no one knew existed.
Even with paneling and flooring, the space was not overly useful for storage due to it being under the steep pitch of the roof. Steve came up with the idea of turning it into a special play area for his son, which would be presented to him when he was slightly older.
He began work right away and over the course of two years turned the secret room into the perfect world for a little boy. Steve began with drywall, then painted the tallest side with his son’s favorite color. Later on, Sarah added an Ikea desk and hung a map of the world on the wall. The final touches were a rug and a toy chest.
The couple gifted the room to their son on his fourth birthday. He was very surprised and pleased to have a hidden space that was just for him. Steve and Sarah are great parents who prove that a little creativity can go a long way.
