Even those who are extremely conscientious while they are eating can end up with a splash of oil on their clothes, and even small spot of oil in the wrong spot will easily ruin whatever you are wearing. While many may throw away their clothes in frustration, there is actually a simple trick that can help you completely remove any stains from your clothes.
Many people will rely upon commercial stain removals, but many times these products don’t completely remove an oil stain. With this simple and convenient procedure, you can eliminate even the worst stains on the softest thin cotton.
First, you will need to gather:
- Liquid Dish Soap
- WD-40
- Baking Soda
- A Toothbrush
- Q-Ti[s
- Cardboard
- Optional – A Rag
To begin with, set a square of cardboard inside the item of clothing to separate the front and the back. This will keep the unaffected side of your clothes from getting anything on it. When you are ready, generously coat the stain with WD-40 and rub it in with a Q-Tip. After the WD-40 has been scrubbed in, sprinkle baking soda over the stain, using enough baking soda to completely cover the WD-40. Any oil stains require a lot of baking soda to be absorbed completely.
Now it is time to use your toothbrush to really scrub out the stain. You should continue to scrub the oil spot until you see that the baking soda is beginning to clump on your item of clothing. At this point, you will add a small amount of liquid dish soap to the spot. Place it over the treated area and use the toothbrush for a few minutes, or at this point, you can switch to scrubbing with the rag if the baking soda becomes too sticky for you to continue to use. If you accidently scrub off too much baking soda, you can add more.
Plan to scrub for a few minutes, depending on the type of clothes and the severity of the stain. You can scratch away the baking soda to see the stain underneath to check your progress. When you see that the stain is disappearing, you can stop scrubbing and put your garment in the washing machine with the rest of your clothes without any worries.
That’s it! When the washing cycle is over, you should have an oil free item. If your item was severely stained, you may still have a small spot and may need to repeat the steps again to remove it completely.
