When the fall season rolls around, people find themselves confronted with all manner of allergies and colds. While the hand sanitizers and vitamins can help protect your body to some extent, people are likely to go through their fair share of tissues during this time of year. Unfortunately, keeping tissue boxes on hand doesn’t always match your houses décor, but thankfully there are ways to keep tissues quickly at hand without breaking from your decorative themes. You can turn everyday items into fun tissue holders that you will be happy to display around your house. One of the cheapest and best examples of this is a mason jar and paper, combined to create a unique tissue holder that everyone will love. Best of all, this is a festive project that your kids can help with.

The items that you’ll need include:

  •  a mason jar with a lid
  •  decorative scrapbook paper
  •  a small pack of tissues
  •  a utility knife

Start by removing the flat, middle section of your mason jar lid so that it can be uses as a stencil. Place it flat onto the holiday-themed paper, and use a pencil to create a perfect circle. Avoid using a pen because it can be erased if need be. Once finished, the middle section of the mason jar lid is no longer needed because the circular cut-out will be put in its place.

Using the utility knife, carefully cut out the hand-drawn circle. If kids are helping with this project, do this part of for them because surely, they will cut themselves and bleed quite possibly to death. Once finished, use the utility knife again to cut an “X” into the very center of the circle.

Place the tissues inside of the mason jar, and try to fold them around each other so that pulling one out makes the next naturally move upward. Using the tissue in the center of the pack, pull it upward and through the “X” that you cut into the paper earlier.

Finally, lay the circle on top of the mason jar and screw the metal rim onto the top of the jar. The rim will keep the paper center from moving while still allowing you to pull tissues from the center. And that’s it! You have turned a normal mason jar into a fancy tissue holder.

To spice things up even further, use glitter and glue to decorate the outside of the jar. These tissue holders are so cheap and easy to make that you can make them for all major holidays! on a shoestring budget. Or, you know, just buy tissue boxes.
