For many individuals pets are considered to be a part of the family and they are cared for and loved properly. Other pet owners do not see pets in this way and thankfully there has been a new law passed in order to protect animals and pets.

According to reports Govenor Andrew Cuomo signed a new bill into law that outlaws the piercing and tattooing of pets in New York for purely “cosmetic” purposes. Govenor Cuomo stated “This is animal abuse, pure and simple.

I’m proud to sign this common sense legislation and end these cruel and unacceptable practices in New York once and for all.” What this law means is that citizens of New York will no longer be able to put his or her pet through escruating pain for sake of looking “cool” or “pretty”.

Perhaps some owners forget that pets can feel pain and bleed, the same way humans do. It has been reported that any individual that is found tattooing or piercing his or her pet for comestic purposes can receive 15 days in jail and/or a $250 fine.

New York is not the only state where owners tattoo or cosmetically pierce their pets. This is a nationwide epidemic that needs to be stooped. Hopefully other states will follow suite and sign into law a bill that protects animals and pets. With the help of animal right groups and governments, more ststes will become aware of this dangerous amid painful practice and outlaw them.
