PHOTO: What A Steakhouse Does for a 92-Year-Old World War Veteran Has Me In Tears. So Classy

An Outback Steakhouse restaurant in Sebring, Florida knows how to keep it classy. Reports of what restaurant staff did to honor a 92-year-old World War II veteran have surfaced and are making their rounds.

Bob Nieman took his father, along with several others, to dine at the Outback Steakhouse restaurant location in late February. The elder Nieman was wearing his hat with an embroidered logo that read “USS Lexington. AVT 16.” Nieman’s father went to pay the tab and the check was returned with an amazing surprise.

The restaurant staff brought the check to the party with a zero balance. The original tab had totaled just under $59. A note that was written on the check revealed that the tab was paid by a grateful patron or staff member that decided to pay Nieman’s tab in tribute to his service.

“Thank you for your service!” the note on the paid check read. It was signed “Very grateful Americans.”

Bob, a former police officer, was touched by the random act of kindness.

“I’ve served more than 25 years in law enforcement,” he said. “People’s acts, good and bad – they never cease to amaze me. My father is a hero. This was an amazing, happy moment for him, learning that someone appreciates his service and sacrifice.”
