It was supposed to be a quick turnover job, maybe about four months, just a regular house flip for Cecil Stinemetz, in West Des Moines, Iowa. It was a repair and resell project made to order for a regular guy like himself, not a contractor, but a hands on type of guy. However, it was destined to become a huge project for the whole family.
Cecil bought the property for $38,000.00 in 2012. After purchase, upon inspection, he found that the foundation was bad. The foundation had sunk and was breaking up. It had already been shored up once. Just to get under the floor and fix it, the house had to practically be torn down. Cecil considered covering it up, but he just couldn’t do it.
Cecil eventually made the house deal right at great expense and time to himself. Contractors were brought in for the foundation, wall, and roof. $100,000.00 was additionally invested beyond the original $38,000.00. The whole Stinemetz family stepped up and volunteered their time. It took about a year to finish completely.
The little house was glowing by the end of their efforts. Their hard work paid off. The little ramshackle house had disappeared and an absolute gem was sitting in its place. Good business equals good karma. Pay it forward.
