Derek Walter and Steve Jenkins, a couple in Canada, adopted a little piglet who weighed 3 pounds and named her Esther. However, it turns out that she was not going to grow up to be a little pygmy pig as they had anticipated, but a full sized pig. Within two years, she weighed a full 667 pounds.
However, though many people would have given her up in this situation, they had fallen in love with Esther and were absolutely going to keep her.
The inspiration and enlightenment Esther has brought this awesome couple didn’t end at their diet; they have also built an animal shelter in order to help even more animals.
Derek and Steve love her so much that they have decided to become vegan, because they can’t stand the thought of eating an animal after getting to know this pig. The family cat and dog also love Esther.
Esther has had a real impact on the lives of this couple. In addition to becoming vegan, they are also planning to start an animal sanctuary, and have raised $4,440,225 dollars on Indiegogo to do so.
Pigs are extremely intelligent, despite the stereotypes of them not being so. They are actually able to understand mirrors and recognize that the pig in the mirror is not them. Esther herself has a playful personality that her family has fallen in love with. She loves to play and cuddle with them, and she is great at showing affection for everyone.
