It would be nice to say that this story is a shocker, but sadly in today’s culture it is not. A preacher was performing a routine funeral with no problems at all until he was suddenly informed that the deceased was a lesbian. Only about fifteen minutes into the funeral the preacher stopped the proceedings immediately and refused to continue.
The preacher said that he would only continue the service if pictures of the deceased with her wife were removed from the area around the casket that they occupied. The family was outraged by this and said that they would do no such thing. Instead, the family removed everything from the church, including the casket itself, and relocated.
Many in the audience were reportedly lesbians themselves and everyone who attended was generally offended. They felt that the actions of the pastor were not only wrong but very rude as well. He was blatantly judging someone who had died, and they did not believe it was his place to make such judgments.
When word got out about this incident, protesters showed up outside the church holding signs demanding an apology from the preacher. They said that he had brought shame upon himself and upon the church. One sign said that Jesus could not be found in that church, only hypocrisy. It was quite an act to see in a clearly quickly changing world. This kind of reaction might never have happened in past years and in past generations. However, this generation does not seem to be as willing to put up with this kind of discrimination.
