The parents of Alex Contreras, who also goes by “Lexi,” are asking the public for help in locating the teenage girl. The 16-year-, who weighs approximately 120 pounds and is 5’5″ tall, was last seen on October 20 at the intersection of Garnett Avenue and Mission Boulevard in San Diego, California.
She is believed to be in the company of two older males that are unknown to her family and circle of friends. Lexi is described by her mother as an accomplished figure skater with Olympic ambitions. Recently, Lexi displayed some behavioral changes that were linked to recreational drug use. She was placed in a rehab facility that she later ran away from with another group of teenagers.
Of that group, only Lexi and a male teen named Michael Ryan Peterson are still missing. Lexi’s parents think she may have been lured away by a group of sex traffickers. The crime of trafficking is a growing concern worldwide with nearly 27 percent of victims being children or young women under age 18.
In Lexi’s case, both the San Diego County Sheriff’s office and Saved in America, a nonprofit organization, are working closely together to find the teen and return her to her family.
