President Obama called on Congress Saturday during his weekly address to close a loophole in gun laws that permits those on the “no-fly” list to buy guns in the United States. Obama calls this situation “insane”, which might actually be an understatement for this.
Also, on Thursday, the day after the massacre in San Bernardino, Senate Republicans blocked a measure which would have ended this situation and also stopped an effort to increase background checks.
“Right now, people on the ‘no-fly’ list can walk into a store and buy a gun. This is insane. If you are too dangerous to board a plane, you’re too dangerous, by definition, to buy a gun. And so I’m calling on Congress to close the loophole, now.”
Obama, referring to the massacre last week in San Bernardino, said the loophole is “insane” because it allows violently dangerous people to get their sinister hands on guns. Obama also said the investigation into the San Bernadino killings was ongoing and that the two shooters had been radicalized to perform the acts of extreme terrorism.
The danger of radicalization continues and it is up to everyone, including government officials and community leaders “to prevent people from falling victim to these hateful ideologies,” he said. The President met the day before with Gabrielle Giffords, the former Arizona Congresswoman who was seriously wounded by a shooter in 2011 as part of a gun control effort.
The president is right. No arms dealer in their right mind would permit someone on the US ‘no-fly list’ to purchase a gun from their establishment. But the methods for gun control in this country are so fucking lenient that a publicly psychopathic clown cold get his hands on an automatic firearm and a room-full of ammunition. That is the America we have created. Because of the zealous 2nd amendment fanatics, anyone with a belly-button can buy whatever arms they like… Which sounds utterly insane! This is America, we are one of the most advanced nations in the world – we put a human being on the moon! Why can’t we control our gun predicament.
