Perhaps our society should never underestimate the talent and abilities of the people that are spectators of musical or entertainment events. The people in the crowds of concerts and shows may hold some talents that basically stay hidden unless they speak up or put forth the effort of putting their abilities on display. This testament was proven true at Vanderbilt University when a brave 19 year old student named Michael Pollack asked the great legend Billy Joel to accompany him on stage with an ensemble.
As Billy Joel stated at the end of the two’s performance, “nice going, Michael…guy’s got chops” and “Michael Pollack, remember that name!”. Those are certainly some encouraging words for a student to hear from a musical legend.
There are some things to take note of in reference to the performance that was given by the student. If you see the video clip, you will notice that Michael Pollack humbly and kindly asked the legend if he could accompany Billy Joel on stage. Billy Joel obliged upon noticing the bravery of the young student among about what looks to be a couple hundred of fellow students/spectators.
This should remind us all that hard work can truly pay off even if you think that there are millions of other competitors in your field of specialty. You never know when you can get an opportunity like this kid got; he seemed to realize it, and took full advantage of it.
