At a recent Trump rally, Rudy Giuliani, the former Mayor of New York City, made a major political gaffe. In Giuliani’s introductory speech, he said that in the eight years before Obama got into office the USA never experienced a radical Islamic terrorist attack.
Of course, Giuliani seems to have forgotten all about the 9/11 terrorist attacks that occurred on President George W. Bush’s watch.
What makes this event so stunning is that the former Mayor used the 9/11 attacks as a major part of his own failed campaign for the White House in 2008. Some satirical news agencies, like The Onion, actually satirized Giuliani’s attempt to use the terrorist attacks for his own political gain.
This latest revision of history is just one of the many examples Trump campaigners have been pushing lately. Some of the more extreme comments made by Trump supporters include the accusation that President Obama is one of the founding members of ISIS, and that President Obama actually started the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
The 9/11 attacks killed approximately 2,900 people in 2001. On that day, a total of four planes were hi-jacked by Islamic terrorists pledging allegiance to Al-Qaeda. Two of these planes crashed into the World Trade Center towers in NYC. Another plane crashed into the Pentagon. The last plane, which was intended to hit Washington D.C., crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
