Moms love to post pictures of their children online, and talk about how proud they are of their little blessings. Most people are complimentary, holding dear the idea that every child is a precious addition to their family, and to society as a whole. However, there are people who will comment to say unkind things, seemingly for no reason.
This distasteful behavior is just what one mom experienced when she posted a picture of her child on Instagram. This mom’s child has Down’s Syndrome and, as with any disability, there are those who will spend their time criticizing those who are different. Imagine this mother’s shock when she saw that someone had written “ugly” below her child’s picture. It was a lone comment in a sea of positive ones, and yet the hurt was real.
This protective mother did not back down from confronting the offender. After taking the poster to task for writing such despicable comments on more than one account that had pictures of those with Down’s Syndrome, this mother simply said she hoped that her kids would be able to look past such ignorance and treat people with respect, including the person who wrote the “ugly” comment.
The mother of this child demonstrated love for both her child and the person who was so undeserving of love. This is the kind of revolutionary love that could change the world if everyone practiced it like this mom.
