When Mandy was eight months pregnant, she started suffering persistent and debilitating headaches and eventually started slurring her words. Mandy had worked with the American Heart Association in the past, so her gut instinct told her that she was suffering a stroke. She was only 28 years-old.
Mandy went to the doctor immediately and was told that she had a hemorrhagic stroke. The doctors had to act quickly in order to save Mandy and her baby. Mandy had to undergo an emergency C-section and even after that she was not out of the woods. The doctors performed a scan on Mandy’s brain and found that a blood vessel had popped. She also had a herniated brain stem. Doctors did not think that Mandy had much chance for survival…
In fact, they did not think she would ever get the chance to hold her newborn baby. However, Mandy has defied the odds. She was taken to the Swedish Medical Center, which is where she received intensive brain surgery.
Both Mandy and her baby are healthy today. They look forward to celebrating the holidays together. Additionally, Mandy and her baby have been reunited with the medical team that saved both of their lives.
